Concise Operating Instructions for Ipswitch's WS FTP LE 5.08

I provide you with only enough instructions to get you going; I will not be explaining every feature of this utility, for I, myself, do not know all of it. To maximize your internet productivity, copy and paste these instructions onto “Notepad” or something similar.

Once you have WS FTP LE installed (double-click WS_FTPLE.exe and follow the installation instructions), it is very simple to use it. As you can see, these instructions are short.

§      Enter the internet when you are ready.

§      Run WS FTP LE; you will see the “Session Properties” window with the “General” tab on top. At this time, you do not need to enter information in the other tabs.

§      Click the drop-down button to the right of “Profile Name”, and see if your web site provider is there. If he is, select him, but if he is not, go to your web site provider, and look for the FTP settings. One good place to look is in their frequently asked questions (FAQs). The most important is the Host Name/Address. Once you find it, just type in any name for the “Profile Name”, and type in the Host Name/Address.

§      Click the drop-down button to the right of the “Host Type”, and select “Automatic Detect”.

§      Type in your User ID and Password; do not check “Anonymous”.

§      Leave “Account” and “Comment” blank; I have yet to type anything in these slots.

§      Click “OK”; you will see information scrolling up at the bottom window. If your entrance is successful, you will hear a pleasant wave file, if not, you will hear an “Uh, Oh” wave file.

§      If your entrance is successful, locate the files on the left window that you want uploaded. Use the green “up” arrow, if needed, to change directories.

§      Click on the file(s) and folder(s) that you want uploaded; to select multiple files, use the “Control” or the “Shift” key at the same time that you are clicking.

§      On the bottom mid-row, you will see “ASCII”, “Binary”, and “Auto”. “Binary” is usually selected, but click “Auto” also.

§      When you are ready to upload, click the right-pointing arrow to upload. When the uploading is complete, you will hear another wave file.

§      You are done.
