Creating a Custom PGII CD

You can create a custom PG II CD that holds most of the custom-made maps available. You can avoid having to put the "Map" folder onto your harddisk, or C, drive. To increase your internet productivity time, and for those of you who are going to own a CD-Rewriter drive, you might want to copy and paste these instructions onto a document file for future reference, and here they are:

1.  Copy the "Smack" and the "Sound" folders, along with its contents, onto your new CD-RW. Your first custom PGII CD should not be made on a CD-R.

2.  Copy the loose "disk1.id" file, which does not belong to any folder, onto your new CD-RW.

3.  Copy the "Map" folder, with its contents, somewhere onto your harddisk drive.

4.  Copy all the "*.shp" files of the new maps that you want to install onto the temporary "Map" folder. Just to make all files are consistent, in the "Properties" of each "*.shp" file (right-click the file), I unchecked the "Archive" and checked the "Read-only" slots. I don't know the significance of this step; it may not be necessary.

5.  Copy all of the "*.map" files of the new maps onto your PGII's "Scenario" folder. In the "Properties" of each "*.map" file, make sure the "Read-only" slots are unchecked.

6.  When you're done inserting all your "*.shp" files in the "Map" folder, copy this "Map" folder, with its contents, onto your custom PGII CD-RW.

7.  Test the CD-RW; play PGII.

8.  If everything works fine, you can now delete the temporary "Map" folder from your harddisk.

You should now be able to use this CD-RW for playing PGII, but you can't setup or uninstall PGII with this. There will be no more excuses for not having the maps required for playing any campaign or scenario. CD-Rewriter drives have come down in price, and they are well worth buying.
