Boot Camp

SSI's Panzer General II is a WWII turn-based strategy game that has been in existence since 1997.  A player commands combat units of different types - infantry, armor, anti-air, artillery, reconnaissance, and aircraft - to duel against the computer or other players.  Computer nerds and other enthusiasts have dissected, analyzed, and created tools to customize this game, and as a result, its players have created and/or customized additional campaigns, scenarios, equipment files, and maps - just to name a few areas.  Because of their combined efforts towards their beloved game, they have come to embrace it like no other.  SSI's efforts at upgrading have been fruitless, for their newly developed games lack the player customizability of Panzer General II.

As commanding officer of these headquarters, I welcome you.  I offer you my work, links, information, and other rhetoric.

- Dave Anderson

Combat Duty

§      Hitler's Mistake, a variation of the Blitzkrieg and Defending the Reich combined, is designed for use with the equipment file (e-file) that accompanies it. However, players may use Lasse Jensen's e-file, version 1.02.11, as a substitute. The e-files have unit costs that reflect the General's ability to requisition and rebuild certain units in the battlefield. More information can be found in the readme file.

§      In Defense of the Fatherland is a Defending the Reich-type of a campaign - one that extensively uses Tigers (or Panthers, depending upon your preferences), Panther IIFs, and King Tigers. It requires these Peoples General-converted maps: Kazansnow 1 and 2, Volgograd 1 and 2, and Almaty 1 and 2. If you have never installed user-made maps and you have a CD-Rewriter, I have instructions on how to create a custom PGII CD that can hold user-made maps. Also, use standard Panzer General II equipment files.

§      Blitzkrieg: The Second Front borrows the idea from Malachor about taking the Blitzkrieg campaign and repositioning the "AI" at different locations. There's an exception, though; in order to be fair to the "AI", I gave him strength, numbers, and sometimes, better equipment. There are no special requirements other than to use standard Panzer General II files.

§      The Gallantry of 7.Panzerarmee campaign traces the battles fought by an undocumented group called 7.Panzerarmee. You determine the fate of Germany and the mental health of its leader. There are no special requirements to run the campaign, but there are special procedures required during campaign-play. Read this WARNING!  Here is a file for Spanish players, translated by Victor Guivernau.  Just replace all the text files with them.

§      The Lumberjack Regiment is a Finnish (German) campaign that takes place between Nov. 1939 to Jul. 1940. It requires these Peoples General-converted maps: Kazansnow 1 and 2, Volgograd 1 and 2, Vladivostok, Ulanude, Ekaterinburg, Almaty 1 and 2, Khabarovsk, Sakhalin, Kazan, and Astrakhan. Maps that I am not carrying can be found either at Oronzo Venturoso's web site or Builders Paradise. If you have never installed user-made maps and you have a CD-Rewriter, I have instructions on how to create a custom PGII CD that can hold user-made maps. Special procedures are required during campaign-play. Read this WARNING!

§      The Taipale scenario adds civilians to the battlefield, which are controlled by the computer (AI). When you are done playing with the scenario, please read about my experience in one of my play-tests. Taipale was meant to be the first scenario in The Lumberjack Regiment, but due to map incompatibility, I had to keep it separate. Regarding special requirements to run the scenario, there are none. For further information, please read the readme file.

Armory

§      SSI's standard equipment files are here for back-up purposes. My campaigns and scenarios, with the exception of Hitler's Mistake, are designed with these files. Please see my statement regarding the use of non-SSI equipment files.

§      Vladimir Medelyan's Campaign Reporter assists me in seeing the results of my work from scenario to scenario. The first recommended improvement is to allow me to see the strength level (below 10) of each unit. The second is to display the current turn. Other than those, it contains everything I need to know. If there's an improvement in his reporter, please e-mail me.

§      Luis Guzman's Equipment Editor 2.07 is a very reliable editor that I use to modify equipment files.

§      To read and create maps, I use Carl Johan Ankerstjerne's Map Tool 1, Jasc's Paint Shop Pro 7, and Microsoft's Paint.
